Steve is smart. He knows that when he says "Emmy, I've got to go away for work for the weekend and I'm taking William with me. Oh and it's the weekend before you're due to have our baby," that this is going to met with certain protests from me.
- "You can't possibly have William on your own for the whole weekend!"
- "What if I go in to labour?"
- "Are you crazy?"
- "I don't know what I'd do without William for a whole weekend!"
All calmly responded to in a timely manner.
- "Yes I can"
- "We'll come home"
- "No"
- "Relax and sleep lots"
Replay that conversation over a few times, insert a few tears (on my part) as they drive out of the church car park leaving me standing there going "Now what do I do?" and you deduce that Steve got "his way" in the end :-)
But like I said - Steve is smart. He knows that I am a lot more likely to relax and make and effort to enjoy my quiet weekend before life as we know it changes, if he gives me updates on what they're up to instead of just going "See you Sunday" as they fly out the door. It's times like these I am thankful for living in the technical age - I got text messages and photos of my boy at regular intervals.
Update #1 - Dinner from McDonalds
Update #7 - sleeping soundly
Update #8 - eating breakfast
Update #9 or #10 - On the swing we made
Update #15 - Hanging with the other kids thinking he's 14 instead of three
Update #17 - more swinging
I'll spare you the "poo" update and also mention that I thought the message entitled "Update #2763" was a little uncalled for but all in all - thanks to the updates, I relaxed knowing both Steve and William were having an absolutely fantastic time without me! Thank you to my darling husband for understanding just how insane I am and catering to it.
