Nah - he looks alright doesn't he?

It's taken me a few days to get around to this one but - last Saturday near the end of the first half of Steve's soccer game, I'm standing on the sidelines in the nice warm sun watching the game.
It was all going well: 3-0 to our guys from memory. Then down the other end of the field two players are all of sudden flat on their backs. I'm still just standing watching - then when I see that neither is getting up straight away, I start looking around the other players looking for Steve's number 7 to reassure myself that it's not him lying injured on the ground (I have no idea why I thought it wouldn't be him) After a bit of soccer jersey number checking, I'm running out of players to check and so far I have not seen a number 7. Hmmmmm - little red flag going up in my brain now!
So I turn to my friend Liz and ask, "Is that Steve?" at the same time she says to me, "That's Steve." So I take off running with a brief stop halfway there to turn back to Liz and call out "Am I allowed to go on the field?" Why I did this I have no idea because if Steve's out cold I wouldn't want to be the one who tried to stop me getting to him! I'll just put it down to the fact that I'm a bit of a "rule follower" and don't like "getting in trouble" and old habits die hard (not to mention it's not generally my practice to throw myself into a circle of sweating men!)
So we got him off the field applied pressure and all that stuff. The rest of the game was cancelled because they had to dig a big chunk out of blood soaked dirt out of the middle of the field.......
Needless to say I drove home with slight Grey's Anatomy/ER thoughts of me rushing him to the nearest hospital and demanding first class medical attention then sitting by his bed through the night so that he might live to see another day! Nothing was going to stop me nursing my husband back from the jaws of death - nothing that is except a stop at Hungry Jacks to get an orange juice and soft serve choc top ice cream cone (This was at Steve's request - it was about this time I realised he was fine!)
Anyway the long and the short of it is - Steve's fine. He lost a few seconds and has a small cut near his hairline. It bled alot but we eventually stopped it and bandaged him up and he's all good. Not even a headache the next day!
We did consider going to the hospital but we figured if he knew his name, what day it was and who I was and if we could stop the bleeding, then who really wants to wait 5 hours at the emergency room just to get a stitch or two? Seeing as the other guy was taken off in an ambulance and was apparently asking the same question over and over again I think Steve got the better end of the clash!
I took these photos after we came home and he had a shower so unfortunately you don't get to see the blood stained soccer jersey and Steve covered in sweat, blood and grass but I'm sure you can imagine......

Hey Em, love your blogging - it certainly was a good crash..... and the mental image you gave me of the harm that would befall anyone who may attempt to stop you from reaching Steve made me laugh out loud! I can just picture this sweet, quiet girl barrelling through a dozen big sweaty soccer players... hehehe... remind me never to mess with you!
Liz
oh Em, it is 0600 and I am laughing out loud - probably even waking lyall up! Hilarious darling - just glad he is fine. I think you came to the right conclusion regarding Hungry Jacks and Steve's condition. And yes that would have been a good time to forget all I taught you about rule keeping! You go girl! Mum loves you so much!!!
