Steve and I had a fabulous time away! Though the weather was a bit dodgy at times it didn't really interrupt our lazing by the pool, reading or nana naps in any real significant way. The first week we were in Palm Cove and stayed at a Novotel resort there. It was very nice - a choice of pools and beauiful buffet breakfasts until 10:30. So our days there were pretty much - sleep late, get up, go on down for a late, relaxed breakfast (where we contentedly read our books and didn't have to wash up!), go put our togs on and head to the pool for more reading and slipping into the pool to cool off whenever it took our fancy. If we ventured back to our room we would find the bed made and fresh, fluffy towels waiting for us - it was a real treat. Then at some stage we would head off down the road to take our pick from a selection of restaurants overlooking the water (though we did have room service a couple of times!) We did spend some time away from the resort. One day we went on a cruise out to The Great Barrier Reef (well what other reef would I be talking about!) The weather was not that great unfortunately and heading out there when I was turning decidedly green I will admit I was wondering if it was worth it. Once we got out there it was wonderful. We snorkelled and saw all the amazing fish and coral, had a beautiful buffet lunch and went on semi-submersible thingy and then snorkelled again. On another day we did the Kuranda Sky Rail thing which was fun as well. One day we went swimming at Mossman Gorge which was amazing - the water clear and cold with a rushing current - so much fun we actually went there again just before we left. So after that first week we went on to Port Douglas to the Sheraton Mirage - talk about fancy!! We'd barely pulled our little hired car up out the front and there were about three people there - opening doors, getting bags, "what else can we do for you sir/madam." This was all about pure relaxation - gorgeous husband, good book, amazing lagoon pools, scrumptious buffet breakfasts (again) including omelettes made right in front of you exactly the way you want - what else could I possibly want? (except peace in Zimbabwe and an end to people dying of starvation and preventable diseases?) It was a wonderful time away :-)
